ABOUT THE SHOW
Fall down the mineshaft in Discount Ghost Stories: Songs from the Rockies. This haunting and hopeful original concert features bluegrass, pop and funk music interwoven with rarely-heard true stories of Colorado’s past.  A formerly-enslaved woman searching for her daughter. A Chinese laundryman seeking justice. A Ute youth killed by a prospector. A silver mine superintendent with an itchy trigger finger. And a pair of cab drivers who may have their own wild ideas about your ultimate destination. Discount Ghost Stories: Songs from the Rockies is a haunting and hopeful night of live music and Colorado stories you probably don’t know but won’t soon forget.

LISTEN TO THE MUSIC

Discount Ghost Stories: Colorado is a concept album with original music and lyrics by award-winning composer/lyricist Alexander Sage Oyen. Featuring some of the most talented vocalists and musicians working today, from the Broadway stage to the Colorado front range, Discount Ghost Stories: Colorado is a barn-burner that’ll take you to the height of the Rockies with its folk rock, neo-Broadway tunes. This album was recorded during the COVID-19 lockdown in spring 2020, with Oyen shipping a mobile recording studio from his personal studio in NYC across the globe to performers including La Chanze, George Salazar, Lesli Margherita and Michael James Scott. Jakob Reinhardt produced the album from his Frieburg, Germany studio. What has emerged is an unlikely collaboration of artists, sharing their time, talent and now this thrilling album… Discount Ghost Stories: Colorado.

Proceeds from the streams of this album benefit the Local Love Fund.

With the support of our entire community, Local Theater Company will present an outdoor production of Discount Ghost Stories: Songs from the Rockies at the historic Bandshell in Boulder, Colorado. This re-imagined version of LTC’s beloved original concert features funk, bluegrass and pop music and will welcome audiences back to the theater, under the stars, marking LTC’s return to live performance.

You can help make this happen! For just $10, you can bring back live performance. Click below for more information and to give today. Want to give more? Sponsorships are available. Email alison@localtheaterco.org for more info.

ACCURACY

Telling other people's stories, particularly when they are people whose stories often get mis-told and erased, comes with tremendous responsibility. We have done our best to read, research, question and involve others, including our colleagues Professor William Wei, Larry Cesspooch "White Belly" and Emeline Root along the way. We acknowledge that we are learning and we are grateful to all those who have helped unearth these extraordinary stories.

Discount Ghost Stories: A Colorado Folklore Concert, presented by Local Theater Company, Pesha Rudnick Founding Artistic Director, Alison Palmer Executive Producer, had its world premiere at Trident Bookselllers & Cafe on June 15, 2019 in Boulder, CO.
