The Democracy Cycle is a project led by Local Theater Company in partnership with Gunnison Valley Theatre Festival and Curious Theatre Company. In Season 13, we gathered community members in three areas—Boulder, Denver, and Gunnison—for civil dialogue on topics related to democracy and what it means to form a society. Each Story Circle, as they were called, included a playwright who listened to the conversation, and synthesized that material into a short play. Now, we are pleased to present an evening of all three short plays, back-to-back, in Boulder, Denver and Gunnison. Dates and venues will be announced in early June, 2024.

Staged readings of three plays inspired by three distinct Colorado communities: Boulder, Denver, and Gunnison.
All three short plays will be presented as one evening of theater in three locations (estimated run time: ~90 minutes).
From a mobile home park in Boulder, to a jail cell in Denver, to an unlikely council gathering in Gunnison, the three Democracy Cycle short plays reflect the stories of distinct Colorado communities. Join us for staged readings of these works that ask: where can we find shelter—a home—in these turbulent times? The answer may not be as far as we think.
