The art of play

An arts education program for K-12 students that uses theater games to build self confidence, encourage collaboration, and increase concentration.

In this course, teaching artists use the art of play–active engagement with a sense of joy, wonder and discovery–to foster a sense of community and guide students to better understand their place and value in the world. They also develop a student’s ability to craft their perspective and speak proudly in public. Theater games invite students to shush that inner critic and participate with abandon. In doing so, they learn that some of the best discoveries are happy “accidents” that can only be found in the brainstorm.

This program is currently offered to 4th and 5th grade students participating in the Boulder Valley School District after school program. If you are an educator or organization leader interested in bringing this program to your community, please click the box below. Nick Chase, Artistic Director of Production & Education, will follow up.

Local Theater Company engages two teaching artists, a lead and associate educator, to teach these classes. At least one educator is English-Spanish bilingual.

What is the typical schedule for this program?

The program format is malleable, and can be offered in short, workshop format, or through multiple classes presented over an extended period of time.

Program fee is determined based on the program’s duration and format.

Is this program useful to adult students?

Yes! The Art of Play offers valuable lessons in collaboration, out-of-the-box thinking and leadership skills.
