ABOUT The Lotus
A poor, young girl and her sister attempt to take on a global computer supervirus with the help of a charming young boy. However, unforeseen circumstances threaten to derail their relationships and thwart their one chance at creating a cure to the supervirus.

ABOUT Esther Omegba
Esther Omegba is a third-year Political Science and Theatre double major at the University of Colorado Boulder. She was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and moved with her family to the United States when she was four years old. Esther has always had a love for the arts and has been expressing it through different artistic mediums since she was a young child. She was part of her middle and high school choir, she was a vocalist for 4 years in her high school's Rhythm & Blues band, she was a co-captain for her church's dance ministry, she acted in musicals in both middle school and high school, and she heavily participated in Speech and Debate-- which afforded her the opportunity to win State titles in Dramatic and Duo Interpretation and go on to the National Speech and Debate tournament two years in a row. Although The Lotus is her first official play, Esther has always had a passion for writing and has been creating short stories ever since she was eight years old. She wrote The Lotus as a final project for her Playwriting class at CU Boulder and at her professor's encouragement, she decided to submit the script to CU's New Play Festival-- where the play was chosen as a finalist. As a result of the New Play Festival, Esther was contacted by representatives at Local Theatre to be part of Local Lab 2022. Though she is very new to the professional theatre and playwriting communities (Esther considers herself more of an actor than a writer), she is very excited to workshop and be part of a wonderful and bright community within the Local Theatre Company. She hopes that her play can inspire kids of color and show them that there are pieces being written with them in mind, and she hopes to write many more works for casts of color.
