Local Theater Company (LTC), a non-profit organization based in Colorado, discovers, develops, and produces new American plays. Since 2011, we have brought exceptional, timely stories to the stage and on digital platforms supporting the work of hundreds of theater artists nationwide. We believe that all theater is local theater. When we elect to enter an audience, we are all local for that brief moment in time. In our view, engaging audiences of all ages in the experiential development of new plays helps create and nurture lifelong, informed theatergoers.

With the pandemic shifting much of LTC’s new play development and education programs to digital platforms, we have cultivated an international audience. Viewers from 16 countries engaged in our programs, growing our base by 25%. We expanded our Local Lab New Play Festival in 2021 from three to ten plays. In the summer of 2021, we produced an outdoor musical for live audiences.

Arts education is a true passion for us, and we recognize its purpose and value. LocalWRITES, our standards-based theater and literacy program, enhances reading comprehension, inspires original writing, and increases self-esteem in middle school students who need extra support — especially now.

In our 11th season, we will develop eight new works for both live and virtual audiences so that people everywhere can experience new plays. This is a seminal time in the life of every theater company. There is little benefit to the global pandemic, but we have discovered silver linings. We have learned how to pivot and meet our audiences where they were: at home. And we have found creative ways to extract good in the face of extreme adversity.
