THE UNBUTTONING
Written by Beth Henley
Directed by Pesha Rudnick
In a cabin high on a peak, a storm is brewing when a woman is visited by a traveling button salesman. She brushes off his pitch but he unexpectedly awakens something in her. Turns out she’s interested in more than buttons. This Blue Ridge fantasia features a woman isolated by the restrictions of class and gender.

STOCKADE
Written by Andrew Rosendorf with Carlyn Aquiline
Directed by Nick Chase
Five years after the end of WWII, a group of gay soldiers gather for a reunion of sorts on Fire Island—and are met by an outsider with a surprise that will cause them to question whether history is best left in the past. At a time when “security risk” is government code for “homosexual,” it will take courage for them to step out of the shadows and confront their past and future. Stockade is a thematic companion piece to the acclaimed, Henry Award-winning ‘Paper Cut’ (Local Theater Company, 2018).

Want to help create a new play?!
Join this two-hour story circle wherein you have the opportunity to share your experiences as they relate to our community and democracy. Playwright Nick Malakhow (Affinity Lunch Minutes, Lab 11) will hear our conversation, and use that material as inspiration for a short play.
We the People: The Democracy Cycle is a season-spanning collaboration between Local Theater Company, Curious Theatre Company and Gunnison Valley Theatre Festival that gathers members of our community for facilitated conversations. Then, playwrights synthesize their learnings to create short plays that will be presented in the summer 2024. Questions? FAQ
