ABOUT THE EVENT: At the heart of Alexandra's practice as a painter is the written word. She has collaborated with writers as diverse as playwright and philosopher Hélène Cixous, hypertext pioneer Michael Joyce and actor and writer Keanu Reeves and been inspired by Sophocles' Antigone and the poetry of Wislawa Szymborska. She will discuss how she works with these texts and transforms them into visual images and spaces.
ABOUT OUR HOST: Alexandra Grant is a Los Angeles-based artist who through an exploration of the use of text and language in various media—painting, drawing, sculpture, film, and photography—probes ideas of translation, identity, dis/location, and social responsibility.
